youtube is deleting debunking videos
« on: April 17, 2012, 10:08:13 PM »
Anyone else noticing this? I always save videos that "prove" something about UFO's to be a hoax and for some odd reason, those videos are being deleted from youtube. Is it because these hoaxes have some sort of copyright?  >:(

Any creative work is automatically copyright. UFO hoaxers are usually pretty fast to whack the ban hammer on anyone pointing out that they're lying.

That said, you have some recourse behind Fair Use, when evaluating and reviewing a piece of footage, or artwork. Namely, I can't show you photo of an iPad in the 19th century that someone else mocked up, but I can show a small part of it to show how one can tell that it was photoshopped.

How have these videos been deleted though? Usually, they have to do a DMCA takedown notice in order to remove any videos, at which point, you're able to file a counter-notice of non-infringement and then they can either decide to take you to court, or let the video remain up... if your videos are just disappearing with no notice of how or why, then... I can only imagine that your account was hacked...

I've been false flagged several times but subsequently had the videos restored due to filing counter-notifications. This happens to people quite frequently, unfortunately. If a video is removed it will say why it was removed, whether it is removed by the person who posted it, or due to a copyright claim. Otherwise, it may state that the video is "no longer available" and this usually means that the account that posted it was deleted.

I haven't noticed any "random" removal of debunking videos without reason.

Yeah its just up to the uploader who uploaded the "debunking" video to dispute the copyright claim once they are hit with it. And they will, inevitably, be hit with a copyright claim if they are debunking someone else's video. But they can - and will almost ALWAYS - win if they choose to dispute it. Simple stuff. No conspiracy, just some people don't know how the youtube system works, what their rights are or they simply don't want to have to give out their personal information as is required when filing a dispute on a copyright claim on YT. meow

Thanks. That sucks because I had some really good videos saved. I think for now on, I may have to start saving debunking videos to my HDD just in case websites like Youtube decide to delete them...
